OLYMPIC WEIGHTLIFTING

Olympic weightlifting originated as a sport in 1896 in the first modern Olympic games in Athens. It has also been part of every Summer Olympic Games since 1920.

It has evolved since those early competitions and in 2000 the first Womens Olympic Weightlifting medals were awarded. Over the past few years it has grown in popularity and it is used widely in sports specific training as it develops explosive and functional strength and as a discipline it supports general fitness and mobility

In practice Olympic weightlifting provides stability and strength to major joints in the body, which makes it an ideal option in helping clients develop and maintain general fitness.

There are many ways that you can incorporate Olympic style weight lifts into training programmes to improve power and strength making this weight training course and qualification a great addition to your skill set.

Course Content

    During this course you will learn the basics of Olympic weightlifting, focusing on the power snatch, the power clean and the power jerk. Course content will cover:

  • Equipment used during Olympic weightlifting
  • Technique and training
  • Contraindications linked to Olympic weightlifting
  • Stages of training
  • Coaching model
  • Screening exercises
  • Warm up exercises
  • Delivery of the power snatch, power clean and power jerk

Pre-requisite

  • Level 2 Gym instructor

Assessment and Certification

The course is assessed through written questions and observations.

On completion candidates will be awarded with The Fitness Education Academy's Olympic Weightlifting certificate which is also endorsed by CIMSPA.
