Level 2 Gym Instructor (includes Emergency First Aid)


This course is the first step to take if you are looking for a career working in a gym and is also the pre-requisite for those looking to move into personal training by completing the personal training course. The course is a mixture of home study and practical workshops, referred to as blended learning.  Once booked onto the course you will be supplied with a course manual and home study support materials covering the exercise and fitness knowledge element of the course.  You will then attend 5 days which cover the practical part of the course and return for one assessment day for a practical assessment and your theory assessments, during the course you will learn:


Exercise and fitness knowledge (home study element) covering:

  • Bones and joints
  • Muscles and muscle actions
  • Cardiovascular and respiratory system 
  • Principles of exercise and fitness
  • Health and safety in a fitness environment
  • Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity

The practical element of the course will cover:

  • How to plan and teach safe and effective gym sessions
  • The principles of training
  • How to adapt exercise to suit varied fitness levels 
  • How to use a range of teaching skills
  • The body's systems and its response to exercise
  • Health and safety factors
  • How to motivate and support clients

The course is assessed through written questions, continuous assessment during the course and you will return (usually one week after the last attendance day) for a practical exam and two multiple choice theory exams.



None - however it is recommended that candidates are familiar with the gym environment



On successful completion you will be awarded a level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing - Gym which will allow you to apply for entry onto the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at level 2. Emergency First Aid course included in price (please book separately)
